Bring Your Daughters

There’s a lot of music out there. A LOT. Much of it, you’ll probably never find, never hear, or never give a shit about if you do hear it. I spent a good portion of the last decade actually trying to hear a lot of it and coming to the conclusion that a lot of that mustic is terrible. Every once in a while, I’ll find a gem. Daughters was one of those gems for me.

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS

This meal is more than meets the eye. I'll give you a hint: it's booze.

Breakfast rules. But how often do you really have time to make some? Well, only if something sounds delicious enough, do you actually make a conscious effort to make time for it. If you’ve ever been on the internet, you’ve probably noticed the Epic Meal Time videos, specifically, their breakfast video. Getting drunk off pancakes? Yes, please. You get the gist of how to make stuff from the video, but here’s some detailed instructions on how to achieve that level of morning glory. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love getting whiskey’d and beer’d at 9 in the morning?

MotorSport Sunday: Team POS Racing

POS Racing

Welcome again to Motorsport Sunday! Last week, we brought you the tale of Bill Caswell, a rally driver with an unstoppable passion for what he does. He won the recent LeMons race in the Bay Area. Well, he couldn’t have done it without the race team that brought him to the event and the $500 car he raced to the finish. I got the chance to speak to J. Farina (yes, he goes by his first initial) of team POS Racing about a number of important topics.

Happy Body Slow Brain’s Dreams Of Water

Happy Body Slow Brain - Dreams of Water

I recently drove up to Kelseyville, CA (read: middle of nowhere) to visit a close friend of mine. Before I started my drive, I decided there were a few albums I needed to listen to, including Dredg’s El Cielo, Protest the Hero’s Scurrilous, Thrice’s Beggars, and last, but not least, Happy Body Slow Brain’s Dreams of Water. Admittedly, a couple of those were a bad choice for windy mountain roads late at night since they make me a bit sleepy, but they all have one thing in common: they are phenomenal albums. Yeah, I’m looking at you, Happy Body Slow Brain.

MotorSport Sundays: Inaugural Edition

Bill Caswell and a table full of money

Welcome to MotorSport Sundays! It’s a tradition I started a few months ago, but a tradition nonetheless. Basically, I spend the entire day sitting on my ass eating delicious food, drinking beer, and watch World Rally Championship, Formula 1, and anything rally related. (Think going really freakin’ fast on different terrains: mud, snow, gravel, asphalt, etc.)

Today’s Forecast: Thunderstorm Followed By Scattered Showers

Let’s face it, many of us don’t use our phones as phones anymore. They’re small, portable computers; hubs to stay connected with friends and occasionally call mom. Yeah, phones still make calls. I know, it’s astounding.

In November 2009, Android made a huge splash with the introduction of the Motorola Droid on Verizon. Fast forward to March 2011…you don’t need a history lesson. The next evolution of Android phones is beginning: 4G connectivity, dual-core processors, front-facing cameras, etc. If you are the average phone user or just barely getting into smartphones, you could honestly care less about these. Luckily, Verizon is keeping their 4G plans the same price as 3G (for now). Right now, you have one solid option on Verizon: the HTC Thunderbolt.

Long Live The Englander!

We here at Wrecked frequent many establishments. Sometimes we get bored with those locations, especially me. I have the attention span of a kindergartener. So, I venture out and find new places that are awesome. Since that’s what this blog is about, let me introduce you all to: The Englander Sports Pub & Restaurant. How awesome is this place? Well, I have returned to The Englander solely to write this review…and enjoy a delicious brew, of course.

Located in San Leandro, a place I sometimes refer to as “Oakland, Jr.”, The Englander is in an oddly nice part of town. The area has several bars, restaurants, and businesses. Next door is a place called The Vine: Wine & Tapas. This area already looks promising! If you’re driving, park in the first spot you see because you probably will not find another one.

I’m not going to lie, this is probably one of the nicest spots in San Leandro. Arriving at 8pm on a Friday night, the place was packed. We were immediately greeted by a wall of beer and spirits. If any of us had a house and tons of money, this is what our bar would contain. There was a makeshift casino in a few of the rooms for a corporate event. Yes, the place is huge.

TACO OVERLOAD: Acapulco Taqueria Bar & Grill

I love tacos. Anyone that knows me knows that I love tacos, so much that one year, everyone wanted to buy me gift cards for Taco Bell for my birthday. They settled on gift cards for In-N-Out, which I have to say was a much better investment.

Living in the Bay Area, we have a ton of diversity which leads to a variety of food and restaurants readily available during waking hours. My hometown, Hayward, has a large population of people from south of the border. This leads to choices. Important choices. Like, where to get some of the best tacos for cheap. At the top of my list of choices? Acapulco Taqueria Bar & Grill on West A Street in Hayward.

Rising Moon? More Like Waning Moon.

“Do I really only have one Rising Moon left?” I asked myself out loud as I opened my fridge. I’m assuming my mom stole the other couple I had left…at least someone likes them. And I need to stop calling it Rising Moon; it’s Blue Moon Spring Blonde Wheat Ale. Either way, I never remember what these taste like until I try them again. Then, I remember why I forgot what they tasted like last year.

You see, I have a problem: Spring time. Sure, the season’s okay. I have no qualms with the weather. I actually rather enjoy the constant shifts from rain to sun. It gives me a good excuse to stay home. My problem with it is the beer. Blue Moon Spring Blonde Wheat Ale, henceforth referred to as Rising Moon like it was called last year because that name is just too long and ridiculous, is a shining example of mediocrity as a result of flavors that just don’t go together.

WRECKED REVIEW: Glassjaw – Coloring Book

There are a few bands that have stayed with me over the last decade. Most of what I once listened to has gone the way of the dodo. There are some bands, however, that have the staying power of the cockroach. These are artists that continuously put out music they give a shit about. Among these artists is Glassjaw. Their new EP Coloring Book is a complete step away from their former sound and direction but, somehow, it makes complete sense and still sounds familiar.

So, This Is What Downtown Has To Offer

I love beer. Period. Before I turned 21, I really didn’t. Sometime around then, I was turned on to Newcastle and Fat Tire (thanks Lucky Pizza!), both of which I still enjoy. Now, I enjoy an array of beer…there’s a beer for every occasion! Here’s one for your next.

Take on The Monstrosity

When my brother got out of Marine’s boot camp, there was only one thing on his mind. He had been obsessing about getting a 6×6 from In n Out Burger. Believe me when I say this, he needed it. Desperately. He was at his skinniest and lightest. It was like they worked him half to death or something.

Five Guys’ Hot Meat

Curiosity for me was piqued sometime in the summer after Five Guys started popping up all over the place. Their name was easily turned into a joke. Things like, “I just love shoving Five Guys meat in my mouth,” and, “Five Guys: good in my mouth, bad in my tummy,” were posted all over the internet. Friends started mentioning how great the burgers were to me, but I didn’t really care to make the trip out to Fremont at Pacific Commons to try it.
